Blackfin was founded in 1971 by Maria Pramaor after working for another major eyewear company for nine years. Maria decided to start her own business in the small town of Agordo, Italy, located in the Alps. This small town remains the location of Blackfin to this day.
The production process takes place 100% in Italy, and the beautiful landscape serves as inspiration for designing eyewear frames.
Blackfin places importance and pride in Italy's cultural heritage.
Maria Pramaor intended for Blackfin to be more than just "Made in Italy." They were innovating eyewear with new methods, materials, and techniques. This is what they call "Neomadeinitaly" โ a high standard and excellence that comes with the label "Made in Italy," which is the foundation of Blackfin's products. They are functional and distinctive, and attention to detail makes the frames shine like timeless masterpieces.
In the 1990s, Blackfin became one of the first eyewear companies in Italy to start producing titanium frames to perfection. They sent teams to learn from experts in Japan. Blackfin only uses pure Japanese titanium.
When the pure titanium sheets arrive in Italy, they are re-engineered into frames by skilled craftsmen. The frames are incredibly strong yet lightweight and highly flexible, making them easy to adjust to fit almost any face shape and size. Moreover, there are no worries about nickel or heavy metal allergies with the pure titanium that Blackfin uses, as titanium does not cause skin reactions.
To celebrate Blackfin's 50th anniversary, they unveiled a special collaboration project with Paolo Nespoli, an astronaut from the European Space Agency (ESA). In 2017, Paolo Nespoli undertook his last mission to the International Space Station. Blackfin created specially designed glasses for scientific experiments related to vision.
Blackfin AERO - True Essence of Lightness
It took over two years for Blackfin to develop and design the AERO glasses, resulting in a product that is simple and uniquely distinctive. They blend craftsmanship and cutting-edge functionality into innovation.
Each style of AERO is made from ultra-thin beta titanium, 0.7 mm for the bridge and 0.5 mm for the temples, ensuring flexibility and comfort. The hinges have a unique design, with small-scale mechanisms that differ from traditional ones. The hinges provide strength and easy adjustability.
Aero Hayle and Aero Fishbourn are among the latest styles that have evolved from the classic three-piece style to become contemporary. The titanium wire wraps around the lens edges, creating elongated dual bridges and stopping precisely where it meets the nylon wire. The color discs reinforce the lightweight structure, inspired by the scent of the future that shapes the bold architectural profile.
Optical frames made of lightweight beta titanium, illuminated by edges obtained from multicolored nylon lenses โ enter the Blackfin New Aura style for the Fall/Winter season 2021-22. The redesigned Aura frames will be slimmer and incorporate both materials in a usable design, ensuring confidence in lens retention with pressure.
Blend natural elements to create a balance of technology and perfect aesthetic appeal. Light and color merge seamlessly with the rounded, absorbing nylon rims complementing the titanium perfectly.
The Black Edition series brings together the ultimate beauty of titanium frames. The special selection presented with a luxurious appearance results from a perfect match between science and exquisite craftsmanship. With Blackfin Nano-Plating process innovation, each model has a unique identity that is unmatched.
With advanced Blackfin Nano-Plating color technology, frames receive a special finish designed for long-lasting use. In an environment akin to outer space.
