Near-sightedness exists, but you don't want to wear glasses. Will your eyesight worsen for real?

"Wearing glasses helps improve vision at that moment."

Firstly, let's get to know the basics of near-sightedness symptoms.

Near-sightedness is a condition where the eye's organ is abnormal. When viewing objects, their images or light rays converge and focus in front of the retina, impacting the optic nerve. As a result, the light that reaches the optic nerve spreads out instead of forming a single point, causing blurred vision.

Additionally, short-sightedness may be caused by the cornea having a greater curvature than normal, causing excessive refraction, where light rays may converge before reaching the retina. In some individuals, the eyeball may be abnormally elongated, causing light rays to converge before reaching the optic nerve.

The image depicts light convergence through the eye lens. On the left side, it shows normal vision, while on the right side, it illustrates near-sightedness.

For individuals who do not have near-sightedness.

Due to the balance between the curvature of the cornea, eye lens, and the length of the eyeball, individuals with normal vision can see images clearly. Light from objects enters the eye through the cornea and undergoes refraction at a certain level as it passes through the lens. This refraction converges the light rays more, and they converge to a single point precisely on the retina's central area, allowing for clear vision.

Short-sightedness, as well as long-sightedness and astigmatism, are natural characteristics that occur in each individual. They may be hereditary or develop spontaneously, unrelated to visual habits such as computer use, phone use, or watching TV up close or reading in insufficient lighting. These factors may lead to prolonged strain on the eyes, resulting in eye fatigue, the need to blink frequently, and sometimes blurred vision.

Therefore, wearing glasses or contact lenses does not correct abnormal eye conditions such as near-sightedness, long-sightedness, or astigmatism. These conditions may change in the future but do not necessarily improve or worsen due to corrective measures. Eye conditions naturally evolve according to the individual's eye characteristics.

Normally, individuals with abnormal vision should have their eyes checked and their vision level measured annually. If, when wearing the same glasses, objects appear blurry or there are symptoms of dizziness or headaches, it's possible that the vision has changed from the previous measurement.

Wearing glasses helps improve vision, making images or objects clearer at the time. If in the future, your vision changes, you can replace the lenses in your glasses to match the new vision prescription.
